USA Pools realizes that there are several options when considering an upcoming swim season. There are many variables that must be considered and some are often overlooked. Therefore we have developed the following questionnaire to assist in making informed decisions.
COMPANY BACKGROUND
  1. Is the Pool Company a full-time, year round, professional pool Management Company? Or do they have other obligations that may distract from their duty to your community?
  2. Has the background of the company been explored
    1. Experience of the Principals
    2. How long has the company been in business
    3. Financial stability of the principals
  3. Does the company attend National Pool Management Conferences or similar programs to examine and improve operations?
  4. Is the company a member of nationally recognized trade organizations?
    1. NSPI (National Spa and Pool Institute)
    2. NPMA (National Pool Management Association)
    3. CAI (Community Association Institute)
    4. NPRA (National Parks & Recreation Association)
  5. What is the financial stability of the company?
  6. If they lose customers will they still have the financial strength to remain in business and pay their staff throughout the summer?
  7. Statistics indicate that 65%-70% of new businesses fail within the first 5 years for lack of financial support (Source Wall Street Journal & SBA)
  8. Will they treat your swimming pool water year round (as recommended by NSPI) or let it go during the winter months to turn green and damage your pool surface?
  9. If company staff damages the community's equipment, will the association have to pay for the company's negligence?
  10. Are the fees the company charging consistent within the industry?
  11. Does the company require written authorization to conduct work, or will they simply perform the work and send you the bills at a later date?

  1. Does the company have Punitive Damages & Professional Liability Insurance?
  2. Does the company Provide Workers Compensation for all employed staff at your pool?
  3. Will the company provide you with certificates of insurance from their insurance carriers?
  4. Will the company work with you to assist in locating insurance, if necessary?
  5. What limits does the company hold?
  6. Is the association listed as additional insured?
ACCESSIBILITY
  1. Is the company available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to your needs?
  2. Does the company conduct repairs in-house or to a third party?
  3. If emergency repairs are needed, how soon will they or the third party react to resolve the emergency?
TRAINING AND SUPERVISION
  1. What type of training program is provided for the staff that will work at your pool?
  2. What type of manuals and support materials are provided for staff members?
  3. Does the company provide MSDS sheets for all chemicals and train staff on chemical emergencies?
  4. Does the company provide Hazardous Materials Training?
  5. Does the company provide Blood Born Pathogens Training?
  6. Is the staff at your pool uniformed in a professional manner?
  7. What type of supervision is provided?
SERVICES AND PROFESSIONALISM
  1. Does the company guarantee the staff at your pool?
  2. What types of records are kept on the operation of your pool?
  3. Does the company provide consulting services for customers exploring repair, renovation and operational options?
  4. Does the company operate its pools according to the safety standards of the local codes and the National Pool and Spa Institute?
  5. Will the pool managers be CPO certified?
  6. What certifications does the company have?
  7. Was your proposal direct with responsibilities and professional in appearance, or were there ambiguous terms?
  8. Does the company have a history through the Better Business Bureau?
